WHAT IS MICROCHIPPING?

The tiny microchip is about the size of a grain of rice.

It is quickly and simply implanted under the skin at the back of the neck in a procedure similar to vaccination. There is no need for an anaesthetic for this procedure. It is a one off injection that lasts a lifetime!

Your pet will have its own unique number and its details together with your own. These details will be placed on the petlog computer database. The database can be accessed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If your pet goes missing and is found by a member of the public, dig warden, police etc they can take it to the nearest welfare organisation where your pet would be scanned for a microchip on arrival.

When the number shows up on the scanner, the database can then be phoned and the number will be matched up with your name, address and phone numbers. You will then be contacted by phone or post and be quickly re-united with your pet.

The regulation is in place with the pet passport scheme, which means that your pet will need a microchip in place if you plan to travel.

You may think that a simple collar and tag is enough but they can easily be removed or lost. Microchipping is one method of identification, which is permanent, invisible and tamperproof.
